Maute group's assassination plot against Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa is apparently connected with the government's war on drugs.
Dela Rosa added that the plan to kill him is "being fed with drug money."
“More or less may kinalaman sa illegal drugs. Bakit ano ang personal na galit nila sa akin except for my job. Hindi ko naman siya kilala personally, hindi ko naman sila naging karibal sa babae, hindi ko naman sila naging karibal sa business kundi naging chief PNP ako na leading the war on drugs,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
The chief of police is confident that God will protect him.
“Alam ko na hindi ako pababayaan ni Lord. God is always with me wherever I go,” he claimed.
He noted that he is not afraid to die in doing his job being the leader of the police force.
“Sa akin ito ay trabaho lang so if I will be sacrificed for doing my job so be it," he added.
An arrested member of the Maute group on Friday divulged the alleged plot.
Maute is a group of radical Islamists based in Lanao which had pledged allegiance to the notorious Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group.
