Ex-President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III called Sen. Leila de Lima after her arrest on February 24.
The former president expressed his support to her despite being nabbed because of illegal drug charges.
It was remembered that de Lima is Aquino's Justice secretary in his administration.
It was also during her post in PNoy's cabinet when her illegal transactions among high-profile inmates of New Bilibid Prison allegedly happened.
On the other hand, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said that the senator's arrest is not "political persecution".
“The court has established probable cause, therefore, let us keep our faith in the judicial system. The moral arc is long but it always bends towards justice," Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella added.
Abella noted that de Lima will be kept inside PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
