De Lima to be Arrested on Monday, Feb 20

After 5 months of House probe, Senator Leila de Lima is expected to be arrested on Monday, February 20, 2017.

The senator is facing 3 complaints before Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court for violating Section 5 of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which penalizes the "sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution and transportation of illegal drugs.

It was when she was justice secretary when she allegedly receives drug money from high-profile inmates for their protection.

Her cohorts, who had testified against her in the house probe, was freed of their charges to act as state witnesses.

Claiming that she will be the administration's first political prisoner, the arrest she has expected few weeks ago, she tagged the arrest as "plain and political persecution."

She even added that the President has a "personal vendetta" on her because of her persistence to investigate "Davao Death Squad" during the time of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Inhibiting himself on the case of De Lima, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre claimed that the arrest is not politically motivated and that she could not categorize herself as a political prisoner.

"It is wrong for Senator De Lima to refer to herself as a political prisoner. Drug cases do not involve one's political beliefs. It involves one's choice to be involved in illegal drugs," Aguirre said.

It was noted that the Lower House started the probe when the Senator initiated to investigate extra-judicial killings in the country.
