45 minutes after the start of the competition, Steve Harvey was calling the 7th and the 8th members of the top 13.
12 contestants were selected by the panel of judges, composed of four former Miss Universe title holders and three other memebers of the panel. Among the judges are: Dayanara Torres, 1993 Miss Universe (Puerto Rico), Sushmita Sen, 1994 Miss Universe(India), Leila Lopes, 2011 Miss Universe(Angola),
The thirteenth finalist will be based on the online polls
For the 7th spot, Harvey called on Miss Colombia. He asked the lady, "How do people in Columbia feel about Steve Harvey?"
Miss Colombia said "You want to know the truth? They hate you but I love you." Then she said something in her own language.
Harvey said "Was that a death threat?"
At the start of the announcement, he said to Miss Colombia "I want you to marry my son."
Meanwhile, as if by chance, Miss Philippines was called as the 8th member of Top 12, immediately after Colombia.
Last year's Miss Universe was filled with controversy when Harvey called the wrong Miss Universe winner as Colombia. Within two minutes, his apologized and announced the right winner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
To Maxine Medina, Harvey's question was: "Your aunt was previous Miss Universe in the Philippines, what was her advise?"
Medina's reply was "Of course she told me to be myself."
