Beauty pageant contenders share the same dream of wearing the crown which symbolizes fame, success and, to some extent, power.
A Colombian runner-up in a recent beauty contest is no exception to having this dream, but she may have gone a bit too far.
Yeimy Lizeth Silvestre Gamez, from Colombia capital Bogota, was not too pleased about not winning the crown in the annual beauty and folk dance competition in the city of Neiva, in the south-western Colombian department of Hulia.
Few seconds after the winner 20-year-old law student Valentina Bonilla Neira was awarded the title of "The National Bambuco Queen," Gamez had to get a feel of what it's like to wear the crown as she snatched the it from the winner's head then placed it on herself.
Against the audience, Neira had five seconds of glory. Then infamy came after as she got booed by the crowd. The embarrassing incident was captured on camera and has been shared on social media.
Gamez then shoved the crown back to the intended wearer and stormed off the stage.
Throughout the incident, Neira remained composed, shrugging her shoulders and blowing the runner-up a kiss as Gamez was escorted out of the view. Neira then turned back to her audience with a glorious smile.
The Bambuco Pageant and Folkloric Festival, which started in 1961, is annually held at the end of June to mark the Feat of St. Peter and St. John.
Participants of the pageant came from each of Colombia's 32 departments and and are judged on several criteria, which include beauty, general knowledge, popularity, punctuality and the performance of two types of traditional dances.
