Rihanna to Play a 'Psycho' Role in 'Bates Motel' TV Series





Pop icon Rihanna is set to star as the ill-fated shower taker in the fifth and final season of "Bates Motel," dubbed as her most high-profile foray into acting to date.

Her casting was announced on Friday, July 22, at the Comic-Con International Convention in San Diego, during a panel discussion held by the case and crew of the American horror TV series.

Bates Motel's official Twitter account posted a video of the singer announcing the role.

"I am about to check into the Bates Motel very soon," the 28-year-old pop icon said. "Guess what else? Guess who's playing Marion?"




"Bates Motel" is a prequel to 1960 horror film "Psycho," directed by Alfred Hitchcock. In the movie, Marion Cane -- to be played by Rihanna in the TV series -- meets her death in a bloody shower scene.

The TV series explores the relationship between Norman Bates and his mother Norma, who run the motel in the remote town of White Pine Bay, Oregon.

Aside producing chart-topping hits, such as "Work," "Umbrella" and "What's My Name," the Barbadian singer also has a number of acting stints, having appeared in films "Battleship" and "This is the End."

Her role in "Bates Motel" will her her star alongside Vera Farmiga of "The Conjuring" movies.
