IKEA's Ninja Dog |
If you haven't seen on your feeds a few years ago, Burger King Japan released limited-edition Black Burgers: the Kuro Pearl and the Kuro Diamond. The term "kuro" translates to "black."
Usually available on the BK Japan Menu during Halloween season, the Kuro Pearl features black buns, bamboo charcoal cheese and black pepper-flavoured patties topped with black garlic sauce. The Kuro Diamond, on the other hand, is same with the Kuro Pearl but comes dressed with lettuce, tomato and onion (all in their original color).

To carry on with the competition, McDonald's later on had a black burger of its own called the Ikasumi Burger.
The Ikasumi Burger ("ikasumi" means "squid ink") is a little less black -- with charcoal black buns the same-coloured cheese and patties.

Recently, multinational furniture retailer Ikea in Japan (they traditionally have food stalls inside every store) unleashed another product that seems to have come from hell's snack bar.
"Ninja Dog" is a black hot dog wrapped in a black bun. The black color also comes from edible bamboo charcoal. The mustard and ketchup are still red and yellow
The large frankfurter measures about a foot long and intentionally sticks out of the buns as it's supposed to look like a ninja scroll, minus the ribbon.

The Ninja Dog sells for 200 yen an it goes on sale at Ikea Japan until December 31.
Black hot dogs have been around the country for at least three years now. In 2013, a fast food store in Akihabara, Tokyo called Vegas Premium Hot-Dogs has been serving the "Black Terra Hot Dog," which is also a long black sausage in a black bun, made pitch black with edible bamboo charcoal.
