Gilas gunner Jeff Chan admits that they failed to execute the game plan designed by coach Tab Baldwin that proved to be the culprit in their 84-93 loss to 5th world-ranking France.
The Rain or Shine three-point specialist rued too much one-on-one plays that left them bleeding for points for the latter part of the second quarter.
"Nung last 5 minutes ng second quarter soon kami nawalan ng points," Chan explained, referring to the Frenchmen’s 14-4 closeout that enabled them to recover from an early 10-point deficit and take a slim 45-43 cushion at the break.
Chan adds, "Medyo nag-on-one kami at ‘yung ball movement namin medyo nawala. Sabi nga ni coach nu’ng halftime, kailangan namin ng ball movement at bumalik kami sa dribble drive."
Chan finished the game with 9 points, all came from the 3-point line.
Gilas Pilipinas actually had a fluid start, displaying ball movement and quick pace to erect a 10-point lead at the opening quarter.
But the Filipinos struggled to maintain the early surge and eventually succumbed to France's experience.
Reigning Euroleague MVP and French gunner Nando De Colo have nothing but respect to the Nationals, citing that they are "good individual players" who proved a handful to them at the beginning.
"They have a good team. They have good individuality and they played good defense. When they played one on one, they have good players," said De Colo.
