Game of Thrones Stars Call on EU Leaders to Help Refugees in Greece

Game of Thrones stars are rallying together to support an important cause: Europe's migrant crisis.

Lena Headey, Maisei Williams and Liam Cunningham traveled to Greece to urge EU leaders to help refugees stranded in the country under the EU-Turkey agreement. The agreement sends migrants arriving in Greece to apply for asylum which often long and drawn-out process, before continuing on.

Working with the International Rescue Committee, the three actors met with Syrians and Afghans currently stuck in refugee camps after attempting to escape their countries.

There, they met a Syrian woman traveling alone with three young children, attempting to reunite with her husband in Germany whom she has not seen in 18 months. The actors have seen how much these people have struggled yet stayed strong, still holding on to the hope that they could get back to their communities and to their neighborhoods.

"This is not an earthquake, this is not a tidal wave. This is a man-made crisis. 57,000 stranded in Greece. Refugee camps in Europe? Is this truly the standard EU leaders want to set as the way to respond to the global refugee crisis?" said Cunningham.

The Game of Thrones actors are not the only stars speaking out about the migrant crisis plaguing the region. The actress Angeline Jolie also has been outspoken about the issue, and Susan Sarandon called Syrian refugees her "heroes" during the humanitarian trip to the Greek island of Lesbos last year.
