Son of NBA referee Dan Crawford is the new Ginebra import

The most popular team in the PBA Barangay Ginebra stuck with the decision to bring a new import instead of reinstating Othyus Jeffers.

Head coach Tim Cone confirmed the news, saying it was the management's verdict to sign a new import.

Ginebra is tapping the services of Drew Crawford, son of veteran NBA referee Dan Crawford as its import for the season-ending Governor's Cup.

The Gin Kings claim that the  6-foot-5, 25-year old Crawford who plays the wing position is the perfect fit to the vaunted triangle offense that produced Cone multiple championships.

“He plays much like Othyus,” Cone admitted. “I scouted him in the Summer League for the last two years. I know him fairly well, saw him play a couple of times and I think he will fit on what we do.”

Crawford played last in the Israel league for the Bnei Herzliya team. He was undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft.

“We don’t have a confirmed date yet when he is coming in but we have seven weeks, so it’s not much urgent to bring him,” Cone said. “But the earlier he is in, the better it is for us, because we have a complicated system and we’re bringing in variations within it, so we will need him around to be there.”
