Japanese boy left in forest by parents as punishment



 The 7-year-old boy was left his parents alone in a forest in Japan Saturday evening as a punishment. The search just reached its fourth day on Tuesday. About 180 police officers and firefighters were already scouring a mountain inhabited by bears as fears grew for the safety of Yamato Tanooka. Researchers and police officers have widened the search area with help of sniffing dogs and horses to go deeper into the thick woodland.



Yamato’s parents claimed that their son had gone missing while the family were collecting edible plants in the forest park, yet later admitted that they had left him in the forest as a “discipline” for throwing stones at people and cars.

According to the police, while one the way back from the park when Yamato’s parents ordered him out of the car and drove on for another 500 meters. After five minutes, the father came back for him but he is nowhere to be found.

Tanooka, who was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans and had no food or water, has generated a widespread over media, with TV networks running frequent updates from the scene, located on Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido.


Police are also looking into the possibility of filing charges of neglect against the parents, who claimed to intently leave the child alone in a very dangerous environment as a punishment.


Japanese and worldwide social media users are furious about such actions the parents did, saying “This is not punishment, but abuse!” in one post.
