Tweet more!

Twitter is making some big changes, at least in the context of 140 characters or less.

The social media said Tuesday that in coming months, photos, videos and other media won’t be counted in Twitter’s 140-character limit anymore.

More wordy tweets ahead then.

The change is attempting to make it messaging service easier to use, and to attract new users.

Also, a person’s Twitter handle, which starts with the “@” symbol will not be counted against character limit. That way people will be able to retweet and quote their own tweets.

Another change is that any new tweet beginning with an @name will be seen by all followers unlike previously where the tweet started with a person’s handle did not become part of the tweet.

Twitter has tried to keep all users happy, favoring those who express thoughts and rants through images and other media.

Above all, Twitter Inc. hopes that the changes will re-ignite user growth.

The San Francisco company, which recently celebrated its 10 birthday, is outshined by its rival, Facebook. It has about 310 million users yet Facebook has 1.65 billion.

Though many people are familiar with Twitter, the company was not able to convert them to active users.

Last year, Twitter brought back co-founder Jack Dorset and launched “Moments” which brings together hot topics in one place. Also earlier this year, it tweaked its timeline to show users that they may have missed while they were away.

Yet the company still suffers, falling 40 percent this year.
