“Creamy, with comforting quality of
warm, yet slightly sweet, soup,” writes Imtiaz.
Bread and butter. Burger and fries.
Coffee and doughnuts. But… milk and curry spice? This is what’s in Saba Imtiaz’
“2016’s drink of choice” and also the drink youths been crazed over lately. This drink is known as “haldi doodh”, a traditional
drink from the Indian subcontinent which contains a combination of milk and
turmeric.
Yes, turmeric, a plant from the ginger
family and the yellow Indian spice usually found in curries. Haldi doodh has been
a staple in India for its health benefits, saying it’s good for everything from
depression to cancer.
It is typically made with juiced
turmeric root, almond, cashew, or soymilk, and dubbed a turmeric latter or “golden
milk.”
Besides the fact that turmeric has “incredible
anti-inflammatory properties”, there are claims that it also has the ability to
whiten teeth and fight acne. Could also prevent E. coli outbreaks.
