From “Hodor” to “Hold the Door” to Hero

Hodor’s death has been haunting and hyping the fandom since Game of Thrones’ fifth episode. Some views even think this probably is the most intense death since the burning of princess Shireen in Season 5.

Though Hodor just served as Bran’s chauffer, uses him as his puppet to carry his crippled body, in Season 5, the big guy just had his biggest and bravest role in last week’s episode.

Who would have thought that a guy who just keeps on saying “hodor” will end up to be a hero?

When Bran couldn’t help but look into the past again using his visions, Whitewalkers managed to detect and track him down after Bran was marked by the Night’s King on his wrist. In order to escape, Hodor had to hold the door to save Bran and Meera. While Meera was yelling out “hold the door”, Bran was currently looking into the past where he encountered Willas, Hodor’s past self. And through that, Meera’s voice passed through and caught Willas into shock, making him just keep on repeating the words “hold the door” – then “hodor” for short. This is one of the most painful scenes ever. Seriously. I bet you guys shed some tears for this guy too.

A lot of people have been speculating about this “Hodor” thing already way before this season started. Even got everyone excited when some of their theories actually hit the jackpot!

And for the guy who held the door til his last breath, may you rest peace.
