A father was able to sell his newborn child to pay for the downpayment for a motorcycle worth 5,000 pesos!
Francis Palacio, 22, a resident of Laoag City, allegedly told the mother of the baby and her live-in partner, Lanalyn Bituin, to go to a hotel.
At the said hotel, a woman named Catherine Garcia took the baby by force. Apparently, she has no idea that her baby was already sold.
"Hindi alam ng nanay na may transakyon yung asawa niya at saka sa tumangay," Senior Inspector Hayde Angelito of Women and Children's Protection Desk in Ilocos Norte Provincial Office said.
"Talagang pinilit niyang kunin yung bata. Siya na ang humawak, hindi nya na pinahawak sa nanay."
A CCTV footage from the hotel was acquired showing Catherine while carrying the child away from the vicinity.
The police manhunt is now ongoing in search for Catherine, which appears to be not her real name, and the baby.
